The book includes many famous characters, such as Nathan Bedford Forest and William Tecumseh Sherman, as well as lesser-known characters, such as Arthur Keller, Helen Keller's father, as well as many others. The book contains a Table of Contents and Index to make it an easy reference, as well as numerous photographs. The author, William Lindsey McDonald, is a regional genealogist that has written several historical books on northern Alabama, such as Lore of the River - Chief's of the Tennessee Valley, A Walk Through The Past - The History of Lauderdale County, Remembering Sweetwater, The History of the University of North Alabama, The History of Elize Coffee Memorial Hospital, as well as others. He was also a celebrated weekly columnist in the local newspaper.
