History Of The New Zealand Engineers 1914-1919: A Record of the Work Carried Out By the Field Companies, Field Troops, Signal Troops, and Wireless Troop (1927) By Norman Annabell

A detailed history of the Engineers and the campaigns they were involved in. The seizure of Samoa in August 1914 was the first New Zealand-Australia operation of the war.

The book covers Samoa, Egypt, Gallipoli, Sinai, Palestine, France, Belgium, Germany, and Mesopotamia. The Engineers saw service in all areas where New Zealand troops served, including German Samoa and Mesopotamia.

The sappers served with great distinction in the myriad conditions of such a wide New Zealand war effort and were engaged in many important activities, including tunnelling at Anzac. The stark differences in conditions and roles, particularly between Egypt, Palestine, and the Sinai on the one hand and the Western Front on the other, are very well made. Always close to the fighting, the Engineers lost many men, recorded in the Roll of Honour.

A list of those decorated for their war service (including Sergt. Forsyth, who was awarded the Victoria Cross), and a list of Officers complete this detailed and important text.

Rare in the first edition, very rare in such good condition.
