My Part Of The Sky: A Fighter Pilot's Firsthand Experiences 1939-1945 (1989) By Roland Beamont

Wing Commander Beaumont started his flying career in France in 1940, where he flew Hurricanes with the now famous 87 Squadron. On his return from the defeat of the British Expeditionary Force, he became embroiled in the Battle of Britain and then went on to fly Hurricanes at night, witnessing the bombing of Plymouth from the air. After a period of Testing for Hawker, he then took over a wing flying the then-new Typhoon. Despite its early teething problems, the author loved the aircraft and used it first to shoot down tip and run intruders before taking it on the offensive, shooting up locomotives in France. He then moved on to Tempests, in which he flew sweeps during D-Day, shot down numerous V1s and then went on to fight over Europe. Finally, after a forced landing, he was taken prisoner for the last few months of the conflict.
