The author is descended from a long line of colonial families, was born in London in 1918, then moved to Sydney when his family was expatriated in 1919. His story covers his experiences from then through the Second World War, in Rhodesia, the Middle East, Malta and the Pacific, after which he married and commenced a life on the land.
