The Aircraft in Profile series launched in 1965 and concluded in 1974, totaling 262 volumes—a remarkable achievement by any standard. These publications were produced by Profile Publications Ltd in England and Doubleday in the U.S., showcasing a successful transatlantic collaboration. Each original format consisted of 16-page booklet with paper covers and staples, featuring several black and white photographs alongside 4 pages of color profiles. Although they didn't withstand frequent handling or the rigors of a modeling workspace, they were both prolific and budget-friendly, perfectly catering to the youthful demographic that dominated model building at the time. The series evolved throughout its run, with refined artwork and an increase in page count to 20 and later 24 pages per volume. Profile Publications became the essential reference for aspiring modelers, an impressive roster of authors including J.M. Bruce, Peter Gray Peter Bowers, George Haddow, Hugh Cowin, Jean Noel, and C.F. Andrews—essentially a "who's who" of historians. Each issue provided incredible detail and rare photographs of specific war machines.
